Logitech G303 gaming mouse gets a lighter, wireless second life

After months of gamer anticipation, Logitech’s G303 Shroud Edition wireless gaming mouse is available. Logitech has yet to officially announce the mouse or list it on its US website, but Best Buy has the mouse available for $130.

The G303 originally debuted in March 2015 under the longer title of the Logitech G303 Daedalus Apex.

The mouse came as a higher-specced alternative to 2014’s G302, with Christopher Pate, Logitech product manager at the time, saying that the mouse was “somewhat of an enthusiast edition of the G302.” The new G303 ups the ante by going wireless and boosting the specs even higher.

G303 Shroud Edition versus the original G303

The most obvious difference between the 2021 G303 and 2015 version is the lack of a cable. The new G303 uses a 2.4 GHz wireless dongle that the product page claims can support up to a 32.8-foot distance. According to Best Buy, the mouse is rechargeable via an included USB-C cable.

And, in following the latest gaming-mouse trends of high CPI specs, the mouse has Logitech’s highest-end proprietary sensor, the Logitech 25K Hero. It has a CPI of up to 25,000 via software (16,000 CPI without). But it seems like more focus is on the mouse’s ability to drop to an ultra-precise CPI of 100, where you get a fine level of control. The prior G303’s sensor could get to 200-12,000 CPI. The difference is obviously greatest between the mice’s max sensitivities. Yet, branding for the mouse on the Best Buy page, presumably provided by Logitech, claims the mouse is “made for low-sensitivity DPI and faster aiming.”

In addition to dropping the old G303’s tether, the new mouse also appears to be longer than the original and negligibly narrower. Best Buy doesn’t provide a height measurement, but we can also see that the new mouse is 35 percent lighter in weight than the original. With gaming mice turning to blatant holes in order to reduce weight, it’s not surprising that Logitech made the G303 Shroud Edition trimmer for flinging about. 

Notably, the G303 Daedalus Apex had three onboard memory profiles. Best Buy doesn’t specific whether or not the new G303 has onboard memory.

Logitech also ditched the RGB for this version, which should help the mouse’s battery life and appeal to those who are sick of the persistence of RGB in the gaming sphere. The dark aesthetic is also a good fit for a peripheral with the word “shroud” in its name.

Lightly enshrouded in Shroud

Logitech decided to tap pro gamer Shroud for the new G303, stamping the gamer’s name in the mouse’s model name, as well as stealthily under the left-click button. It continues an ongoing partnership between the company and player, which already includes Shroud Editions of Logitech G’s Pro wireless mouse, Pro X wireless gaming headset, Pro X mechanical keyboard, and G840 mousepad. The Shroud-style G303 seems less offensive than the rest by keeping the branding to a minimum and skipping the gamer’s bright blue logo.

We’ve reached out to Logitech for more information on the G303 Shroud Edition but didn’t hear back in time for publishing. However, Logitech may make an official announcement about the mouse today, as it hinted via Twitter yesterday:
